Wallpaper Butterflies
Supplies:
wallpaper remnants
two pipe cleaners or chenille stems
one clothespin
small magnet
pencil
scissors
small amount of glue
Instructions:
1. Print and cut out the butterfly pattern. You can enlarge the pattern with a photocopier, if you wish, for larger butterflies.
2. Trace the pattern pieces onto wallpaper. You may use two different wallpaper designs, if you wish - may a solid design on the top and a pattern on the bottom, or vice versa...whatever looks good to you.
3. For the male, take the small body with the tail and lay it on top of the large body with tail, then set these pieces aside.
4. Take the small basic shape and lay it on top of the large basic shape. Using both hands, take the body with tails and scrunch together in the middle and do the same with the basic body, as shown in the inset diagram on the printed pattern.
5. Take a pipe cleaner or chenille stem and wrap it around and around the pencil like a spring. Remove the chenilee stem from the pencil.
6. Fold the black chenille stem in half and run one end through the curled chenille stem. Place the scrunched together butterfly pieces between the straight stem and the curled stem, then fasten the two ends of the black chenille stem together with a tight twist.
7. Curl the end of the two black antennas by wrapping the ends once or twice around the pencil.
8. Glue the wallpaer butterfly onto a spring type clothespin, then glue a magnet to the clothes pin.
Suggestions: Use the wallpaper butterflies to hold my kid's drawings on the fridge. If you prefer, you can leave off the clothespin and magnet, and stick the pretty butterflies on the wall or window with sticky tack.

-Cover a large popcorn gift tin or commercial-size ice cream carton. Voila: a new wastebasket!
-Cover a tissue dispenser with wallpaper to match the room. Apply with vinyl-to-vinyl wallpaper adhesive.
-Cover switch plates to match the walls.
-Make 2-inch-wide folds in a sheet of scrap wallpaper for a fan that will hide your fireplace cavity during summer. Catch the end with a large paperclip or other fastener of your choice and then hot-glue a pretty seashell or shank button on the front of the fan to hide the clip.
-Pleat a piece (make 1/2-inch folds) into a cover for an old lampshade. Punch holes in the top folds and run a piece of narrow satin ribbon or decorative cord through the top, tighten to the desired circumference and tie in a bow; use hot glue for side seam.
-Keep a roll or two in the car's trunk for hauling messy things home from the store such as plants or mulch. (Note that you shouldn't haul wet items on top of prepasted paper - the paper could stick to the carpet lining of your trunk.)
-Line drawers or shelves.
-Revamp the inside of an old steamer trunk or other furniture.
-Craft a "hatbox" using poster board and hot glue. Then cover it with wallpaper. This makes a great holder for potpourri, rolled-up and ready-to-use washcloths, or spare bathroom tissue. Create a matching top for your hatbox.
-Cover cardboard-tube containers (the kind with plastic snap-on lids that potato chips, baking powder, oatmeal and such come in) with wallpaper. Use them to store paper clips, buttons, marbles, etc.
-Wrap gifts with it (maybe not for a wedding or the boss's Christmas present, but this gift wrapping should be fine for a close friend or relative).
