CARDBOARD SLED

-Assemble your materials. You'll need corrugated cardboard, which is sturdier than flat cardboard. Disassembled packing boxes are an excellent, free source of this material. Also gather duct tape, scissors or utility knife, string, boards for runners and any other materials you plan to use.
-Make a design for your cardboard sled. A basic sled can be made from a rectangular piece with a rounded front edge. More elaborate sleds, such as those with sides and box-like bodies, will need more planning.

-Cut your cardboard pieces to match your design. Try to avoid folds unless your sled needs a fold in that spot, as they compromise the strength of the cardboard.
-Add a rope or string as a sled handle by tying one end to each side at the front. You'll want to reinforce the holes with duct tape to prevent tearing when the sled is in use.

-Create sides, top or decorations out of cardboard to make a unique cardboard sled. For this step, you'll need creativity and imagination.

-Break them down into flat pieces of cardboard. Tack them down with landscaping spikes in your garden to make weed free pathways through your plants.

-Save them for fire kindling.

-Save them to mail packages.

-Compost your cardboard. Cardboard decomposes and is beneficial to garden soil. If you compost and have cardboard that is not used in some other way, add it to your compost pile. Simply remove any tape, plastic, or staples first.

-Make a child's nesting toy. Cardboard boxes come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The tops can be removed and they can be stacked inside each other to create an educational toy for a small child.
