1 to 2 tablespoons fresh or 1 to 2 teaspoons dried lemongrass
1 1/4 cups boiling water
2 tablespoons apricot oil
4 teaspoons avocado oil
1 teaspoon wheat-germ oil
1/2 ounce beeswax
2 teaspoons lemon juice
You will need:
a heatproof ceramic or glass bowl
a fine sieve
a non-reactive double boiler
a wooden spoon
2 sterilized 6 to 8 ounce glass jars with tight fitting lids.
In the ceramic bowl place the lemongrass and add the boiling water to make an infusion. Cover and allow to steep for 15 minutes. In the top of the double boiler, over simmering water, melt the beeswax completely. With the wooden spoon, stir in the warmed oils; then, drop by drop, stir in 4 teaspoons of the lemongrass infusion. Remove from heat, add the lemon juice, and beat until thick and smooth. Pour into the jars, Keep one handy for use and the other in the refrigerator until needed.
Gardeners Hand Cream
Apply this special gardeners hand cream before bedtime after a day in the garden, and your hand will be cared for while you sleep. Rub some onto your hands each time you set out to work in the garden for added protection.
2 tablespoons avocado oil
1 tablespoon honey
2 teaspoons glycerin
about 1 1/2 cups finely ground almonds or rolled oats
You will need a ceramic bowl, a spoon, and a pair of washable cotton glovesIn the bowl, thoroughly mix the avocado oil, honey, ad glycerin. Stir in a sufficient amount of almonds or oatmeal to form a thin paste. Rub the paste over your hands; then put on the gloves and wear them overnight. The gloves can be washed and reused. Store the excess gardener's hand cream in a small jar with a tight fitting lid.
Quick and Easy Hand Lotion
An old favorite quick and easy hand lotion recipe valued by generations of women long before the advent of cosmetics companies and commercial hand creams. Massage regularly onto your hands.
2/3 cup rosewater
1/3 cup glycerin
Pour the ingredients into a sterilized 8 ounce bottle with a tight fitting stopper. Shake vigorously to combine. Keep the lotion in a cool, dark place.
KISS Lotion (krafty, inexpensive and super simple)
2 jars store-brand Vitamin E cream
2 store-brand baby lotion bottles
1 jar of the store-brand Vaseline
Dump above into a large mixing bowl.
Mix. Don't overheat the hand-mixer.
Put the lotion that you made all by yourself into little jars. You can reuse the vitamin e cream jars and Vaseline jar again. Or you can buy fancy jars at an antique store...
Apply KISS lotion to skin. It absorbs quickly. For best results, apply after bathing. For dry, cracked heels apply after bathing and before bedtime (sleep in socks).
Moisturizing Body Lotion
3 tablespoons glycerin
3 tablespoons rosewater
1 tablespoon almond oil
1 teaspoon wheat germ oil
1 teaspoon jojoba oil
Put all ingredients in a sterilized 4 ounce jar with a tight fitting lid. Shake vigorously until mixed. Store in a cool, dark place.
Rose and Honey Body Lotion
1/4 to 1/2 cup fresh or 1 to 2 teaspoons dried rose petals
1 1/4 cups boiling water
1 cup distilled or boiled water
1 teaspoon quince seeds
1/3 cup almond oil
2 teaspoons avocado oil
2 teaspoons wheat germ oil
1 teaspoon honey
5 drops geranium essential oil
You will need:
a medium sized heatproof ceramic or glass bowl
a fine sieve
a cup
a non-reactive saucepan
a stainless steal spoon
a dessert bowl
a sterilized 8 ounce glass jar with a tight fitting lid
In the bowl, place the rose petals and add the boiling water to make an infusion. Cover and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Strain the infusion into the cup. In the saucepan, over moderate heat, bring the distilled water and quince seeds slowly to a boil. Simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring to prevent sticking. The mixture will thicken into a gel. Using the back of the spoon, push the gel through the sieve into the dessert bowl. The seeds can be dried and used again.
In the saucepan, combine the infusion and the almond, avocado, and wheat germ oils. Warm over low heat; then stir in the honey until combined. Remove from the heat and allow to cool.
Add 2 1/2 ounces of the quince gel. Then add the geranium essential oil, 1 drop at a time. Finish by stirring the mixture until smooth. Pour the rose and honey body lotion into the jar. Store in a cool, dark place.
Soothing Footbath
1 tablespoon sea salt
2 drops lavender essential oil
1 drop rosemary essential oil
1 drop bay essential oil
1 drop geranium essential oil rose petals (optional)
You will need a large basin or wide-bottomed bowl and a bath towel.Fill the basin with enough warm water to cover feet. Stir the sea salt into the warm water until it dissolves (use your toes to stir, if you wish). Add the essential oils, mixing them well. For a little luxury and a pleasant aroma, float scented rose petals on the surface of your soothing footbath. Soak your feet in the basin for about 10 minutes, or until the water has cooled. Pat your feet dry with towel. Finish with Eucalyptus Foot Lotion, Taking time to massage the toes well.
Eucalyptus Foot Lotion
1 tablespoon almond oil
1 teaspoon avocado oil
1 teaspoon wheat-germ oil
10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
Put all of the ingredients in a small, sterilized glass bottle with a tight- fitting stopper. Shake the liquid vigorously until it is completely combined. Store the bottle in a cool, dark place. Shake well before using.
Leg Massage Cream
3 tablespoons anhydrous (water-free) lanolin
1 1/2 ounces olive oil
2 tablespoons apricot oil
To start, you will need a non-reactive double boiler, a wooden spoon, and a sterilized 4 ounce jar with a tight-fitting lid. In the top of the double boiler, over low heat, warm all the ingredients together until the lanolin has liquefied. Stir for several minutes with a wooden spoon. Pour the mixture into the jar and allow to cool. Keep leg massage cream in a cool, dark place.

Helpful Hints
You can use an electric mixer to blend ingredients, but be sure to clean the beaters thoroughly before using them for cooking.
Use bottles that hold exact amounts of a product in order to minimize contact with air. When you have used a good portion of the product, transfer the remainder to a smaller bottle.
Use amber-colored bottles to protect your bath and body recipes against light. Store in a cool, dark place; for the long term the refrigerator is best.
When making products as gifts, be sure to include a list of ingredients on the on the label. If possible, check beforehand whether the recipients of your gifts are allergic to any of the ingredients you may be using.
